Los Angeles Theatre Center Complex

The Challenges

Located in the heart of downtown, the Los Angeles Theatre Center was designed and built in 1916 in the Greek revival style and is widely known for its lobby with a large 50 by 100 foot stained glass ceiling. Over the next several decades this iconic building has been known as Security Trust & Savings, Security National Bank and President Trading Company, reopening in 1985 as the Los Angeles Theatre Center. After receiving a $4 million grant from the California Cultural and Historic Endowment to refurbish the building in 2006, the complex is now operated by the Latino Theatre Company.

BEST was selected by the City of Los Angeles to furnish and install a Sarnafil 60 Mil PVC fully adhered roofing system and all accessories to create a watertight surface for this historic building covering an area of more than 7,000 square feet first by removing the cap sheet and leaving the insulation in place. It should be noted that the installers had to pay particular attention to the many pedestrians and heavily-trafficked area while loading the material onto the roof top and during the course of the installation.
